[He chuckles, shaking his head. Normally people guess that they're vampires or just generally call them "monsters".]
...That's a new one. But nah, she's not. Do you know what a homunculus is? And have you heard of the elixir of life? Ennis was, um, grown in that. So... she's immortal.
You sure you're from Earth? 'Cause they don't have that shit where I'm from.
[They just have people who can dualwield effectively and without acquiring physical strain from doing so as well as a so-far-off-her-rocker-she-sailed-clear-to-Pluto killer maid who evaded multiple battle forces (both national and criminal) essentially unharmed. You know. Normal things.]
Hrm. [She kinda doubts it, but...if it's not true, then that would mean there would be alternate Earths out there, right?
...well, it's not the weirdest concept in this fuckin' world. (It's also entirely possible Firo could totally be putting her on. But she doubts that too. The kid seems pretty sincere.) Revy leans back in her chair as well.] Okay, so Ennis is a homun-whatever. She's back from the dead, now what? [Is there a bloody rampage? Revy would like to hear about that.]
Well, she goes back to look for Szilard and see what he wants her to do next. She did still see that as her job, after all. When she finds him around the corner in the alley, he's facin' off against one of the capos from the Camorra Family he attacked.
A few feet away, her friends Isaac and Miria are in Szilard's car--they stole it from him. The windshield's shattered where they hit him with it, but Szilard's completely fine. Just pissed off. So... he gives her a knife and tells her to go take care of Isaac and Miria.
[He frowns. He's not keeping his cover as impartial storyteller very well, but he's offended to hear Ennis insulted. And Ennis is anything but a wuss.]
She did not wuss out!
[He clears his throat, looking away.]
She went up to Isaac and Miria, thanked them, and told them to get outta there. Then she ran to Szilard and stabbed him in the back.
Woulda' been nice if he kicked the bucket right then, but Szilard was immortal. Unlike Ennis, he wasn't made in the elixir, he just drank it. But he could still recover from that just as fast, and when he did...
[He sighs and stares at the tabletop. This is one of the parts of this story that he doesn't like so much, though the ending makes up for it.]
The thing about a homonculus is that there's a link between them and the person who made 'em. For Ennis, that person was Szilard. So right then and there, when he decided he wanted her to die, she started to, well... Break down, basically, in her cells. He didn't want to kill her quickly.
So that's why she couldn't go against him before, huh? Sounds like a messy end -- and all because those two other people thanked her? [A shrug.] Doesn't seem worth it to me.
Exactly. She didn't doubt for a second that he'd do it--he'd done it to the homonuli before her.
[He shrugs.]
Like I said, they were the first people she met who didn't treat her like she was lower than dirt. I don't know if I woulda' done the same if I was her, but that still means something. And she was tired, I think, of killin' people for him. It was worth it, the way she saw it.
[He stares at her for a moment until he gets the joke, and then he stares at her more with a mixture of horror and offense.]
...She nearly died and you're makin' jokes?
[Wow. People have no tact these days! He shakes his head.]
Anyway. Isaac and Miria were peltin' Szilard with pepper bombs to try and make him stop what he did with Ennis, but it didn't do much.
Then, some of the guys who'd been shot earlier showed up, all in one piece, just like her and Szilard. Ennis saw her chance, even if she couldn't kill him with her own hands and even if it was too late for her.
Because, well, she figured that they somehow got into the elixir. It didn't matter how, just that they were immortal. There is one way to kill a normal immortal human and you need an immortal to do it.
[Revy just gives Firo a disbelieving look over her glass as she takes another swig. Sheesh, what's wrong with a little black humor to get through life? That's probably not even the worst joke she's made about death.]
Is it like what Ennis was just doin' to her, or somethin' else?
Somethin' completely different. You... you "eat" 'em. And that's what Ennis told one of those guys to do. To make sure that when she died there, Szilard would go too.
It worked, but just gettin' rid of Szilard didn't mean she'd stop dying. So she asked the guy who killed Szilard to take her the same way. Thing is, when one immortal eats another, they get all their memories and thoughts. It's not a pretty way to go, but she didn't think she'd have the time to tell Isaac and Miria everything she wanted to say.
[She's gotta hand it to Firo, this is actually a pretty interesting story. If only for the whole homunculus and immortal and apparent cannibalism thing.]
...you know, they're not really "immortal" if they can actually die.
[That's something he's wondered about but never fully explained. He glares at her, sighing.]
Okay, fine, maybe they don't really die. They "live on" in the other person's head or whatever, happy? I don't know what else to call it when someone doesn't age and doesn't die when they get shot. And when you eat somebody, it's not like you actually eat 'em. You kinda suck 'em up into your hand.
[Not that that's better.]
Can I finish up now, or are you gonna quibble more with my word choice?
[He nods as he tries to get his brain back on track.]
So she asked him to eat her, sure that he'd let her die. Of course, that wasn't gonna happen, so using Szilard's memories he reversed what Szilard had done to her.
Ennis got back on her feet and never had to deal with doin' Szilard's dirty work again. And she's still friends with Isaac and Miria years later--so I guess you could say they completely stole her from that old bastard.
[That's enough cheese for three bowls of Easy Mac.]
That's stretchin' it. But I'll give ya a pass because of all that stuff with the immortals. Wasn't expecting that. [Grinning, she taps her fingers on the bar counter.] Round two, then?
((OOC: How do you feel about continuing to backtag? I've been enjoying this thread (in spite of what my slowness might imply) but I know this has been going on since August. If you'd rather not backtag, we can work out what each one might have learned about the other in later rounds or something.))
How's that stretchin' it? I thought it was a good story.
[Of course he did; Ennis was in it. Depending on how much Revy was paying attention, she may have noticed that Firo has something of a crush on Ennis.
He smiles--the deck's already in his hand--and starts shuffling.]
You bet!
[ooc: I'm enjoying this too, and I'm totally fine with more backtagging! But if you wanted we could work out what they would have told each other, or we could do a later thread with them having a rematch. I don't know what your tag load now is like, so I'm honestly fine with what works best for you.]
((OOC: I'll have Revy lose this round, then, so we can at least thread out one story for her.))
[Oh, yeah, Revy noticed that Firo has something for this Ennis chick, considering how defensive he got about her. But she'll leave it for the moment, instead glancing idly around the bar as Firo deals out another hand.]
no subject
That's what I said, isn't it? It took a few seconds for everything to patch itself back up, but after that she was fine.
[He shrugs, as if it's something that happens every day. He could volunteer the explanation, but where's the fun in that?]
Can I keep goin', or are you gonna need a moment?
no subject
You tellin' me she's some sort of zombie?
[Revy's not complaining about this twist, but she'll be pissed if Firo's trolling her.]

She did not wuss out!

[So Revy was pretty much right.]

[Yeah, Revy barks with laughter at that.]
Shit, he must've been pissed! So did he die or is he a homunculus too?
